July raves on with dance parties galore – The Garden Beats Festival, Silent Disco Asia, the Atlantis Music Festival, CÉ LA VI’s sixth anniversary and loads more
The second half of 2016 will be in full swing come July, and the list of dance parties just keep piling up! A massive beach festival returns, as do an electronic picnic and an unconventional Silent Disco. We’ve also got incoming parties featuring international DJs hailing from The Netherlands, South Korea, and even China, so hold on to your hats and polish ’em dancing shoes – it’s time to rave and repeat all over again.
Silent Disco Asia: 2 July at Kult Kafé
The demand for the debut edition of Silent Disco Asia in May was so overwhelming, it had no choice but to host a second venue and party! Clearly, the organisers behind the headphone-strapping, choose-your-own-music concept are onto something good, and they’re bringing it back in July! Read our Silent Disco Asia feature to find out how it all works.
Silent Disco Asia, 2 July, Kult Kafé, 11 Upper Wilkie Road, Singapore 228120. Ticket is $15 each with one free drink.
Ritual Presents Show-B & Nuno Dos Santos: 2 July at kyō
Aside from being one of Singapore’s hardest working house DJs, Zig Zach’s also one hard-hitting promoter with his Ritual nights, having brought down international deep and tech-house acts like Matthias Meyer and Hunter/Game. This July, Ritual welcomes like-minded decksters in the form of Germany’s Show-B and The Netherlands’ Nuno Dos Santos – both are known for their luscious, well-paced progressions that will keep you entranced on the floor for hours.
Ritual: Sohaso x Lossless Showcase Feat. Show-B & Nuno Dos Santos, 2 July, kyō, 133 Cecil Street, Singapore 069535, p. 8299 8735. $20 for ladies and $25 for men, both include one complimentary drink.
Sunday On The Hill: 3 July at Kult Kafé
A monthly family-friendly party that needs no introduction, our go-to Sunday jaunt greets July early with more boogie-ready tricks up its sleeve. Expect more chilled tunes, BBQ nosh, graffiti murals and even entertainment for the kiddos. Here’s why we’re always hyped for this series.
Sunday On The Hill, 3 July, Kult Kafé, 11 Upper Wilkie Road, Singapore 228120. Free entry.
Guilty Pleasures: 5 July at OverEasy Orchard
So tell us what you want, what you really really want. Are you truly, madly, deeply in love with the cheesy ballads of Savage Garden? Do The Cranberries still linger in your heart? Do you want Backstreet back?? Shamelessly unleash your ’90s party animal at Guilty Pleasures with KiDG on decks, and we’ll party like it’s 1999.
Guilty Pleasures, 5 July, OverEasy Orchard, #01-01 Liat Towers, 541 Orchard Road, Singapore 238881, p. 6684 1453. Free entry.
Atlantis Music Festival Presents Borgeous: 9 July at Wave House Sentosa
If you’re looking for a beachside bash of seismic proportions in July, this is one EDM festival that will cater to your most debauched desires. The Atlantis Music Festival returns for more big-room action with headliner, Borgeous, from Miami. He’ll also be accompanied by Singapore’s own EDM hotshot Inquisitive, Malaysia’s sexy sirens The Leng Sisters, emcee duo Twins Gone Wrong and more; so ladies, get those bikinis ready, and hunks, start pumping that iron.
Atlantis Music Festival, 9 July, Wave House Sentosa, 36 Siloso Beach Walk, Singapore 099007. Tickets at $65 (standard) and $80 (event day).
LIGHT – All Vinyl Pool Party: 9 July at Sofitel So Singapore
If you’ve been following our previous party round-ups, you’ll know that this pool party series at Sofitel So swims right up our alley. The crew’s back for an all-vinyl showcase (real skills here!), featuring a deck-savvy roster of veterans such as Brendon P, Titus, Oliver Osborne and Rocky Suave.
LIGHT – All Vinyl Pool Party, 9 July, Sofitel So Singapore, 35 Robinson Road, Singapore 068876, p. 6701 6800. $10 for entry, arrive before 4pm for one complimentary drink.
Zouk Soundsystem Presents Oliver Heldens: 15 July at Zouk
He showed us ravers why he’s dubbed Mr. Future House at his debut set at ZoukOut, and since getting floored by his saw-edged synths and bumpy basslines, we’ve been wanting more from Dutch boy wonder, Oliver Heldens! The 21-year-old prodigy returns to Singapore’s most iconic club this July, and hopefully we’ll get to hear some left-field, ‘bass-house’ tunes from his HI-LO alter-ego?
Zouk Soundsystem Presents Oliver Heldens, 15 July, Zouk, 17 Jiak Kim Street, Singapore 169420, p. 6738 2988. $28 for ladies and $33 for men, both include two complimentary drinks
CÉ LA VI Singapore 6th Anniversary: 15 July at CÉ LA VI
Our favourite rooftop club turns six in July! A towering shindig worthy of its recent “Top 100 Clubs in the World” accolade, this milestone party adopts a theme that pays homage to the picturesque French coastal town of Saint-Tropez (not to mention, it’s also opening a new outlet there too!) Come ready to party with French flair, and get loose with CÉ LA VI’s resident DJs, including turntablism master from New York, DJ Spinbad.
Welcome to St. Tropez: CÉ LA VI Singapore 6th Anniversary, 15 July, CÉ LA VI, SkyPark, Marina Bay Sands Tower 3, 1 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore 018971, p. 6688 7688. Cover charge applies.
Canvas x DTW Present Do Hits With Howie Lee & Jason Hou: 23 July at Canvas
One of the hippest riverside joints comes together with one of the edgiest labels in Singapore and China. Alongside local Darker Than Wax residents, Rah and William J, the highlight of this gig comes from Beijing’s Howie Lee, who fuses ethnic Chinese elements with the underground UK sounds of grime and dubstep. He’ll be backed by labelmate, Jason Hou, who is just as unforgivably experimental.
Canvas x Darker Than Wax Present Do Hits With Howie Lee & Jason Hou, 23 July, Canvas, The Riverwalk, #B1-01/06, 20 Upper Circular Road, Singapore 058416, p. 9169 3815. Presale $22 (incl one drink), Door $35 (incl one drink).
Tiki Techno: 24 July at Othello Bar & Bistro
What do you get when you throw a dark techno party in a sunny Tiki-themed setting? We don’t know either; that’s how clandestine and hush-hush this pop-up party is. All we know so far is that it’s hosted by PAP (People Always Party, nice), and it’s an alfresco hullabaloo with Tiki bartenders and local and regional DJs. Come explore!
Tiki Techno, 24 July, Othello Bar & Bistro, 44 Rochester Park, Singapore 139248.
Sundown Live Party Presents DJ Soda: 29 July at Zouk
South Korea doesn’t just produce bubbly, heart-stealing K-pop exports; DJ SODA is proof that the commercial dance industry is just as explosive. The social media phenomenon – she’s well-known for her signature ‘flute dance’ – headlines the Sundown LIVE Party held at Zouk with her floor-psyching picks of hip-hop, r&b, trap, and K-pop edits.
*A Bathing Ape Presents Sundown Live Party Feat. DJ Soda, 29 July, Zouk, 17 Jiak Kim Street, Singapore 169420, p. 6738 2988. $45 (general admission), $95 (VIP).
Midnight Shift – Acid House Feat. Tapirus: 30 July at kyō
It’s a genre that might’ve been toppled off its pedestal in the past decade, but acid house continues to be relished by punters looking for a more aggressive form of dance music. Sonically frozen in time, the acid sound is characterised by the use of old-school analogue synthesisers, resulting in squelching top hooks and basslines. Keeping the tradition alive will be The Netherlands’ Tapirus, Scotland’s Jamie React, and Singapore’s very own saxophonist-slash-techno-trooper, Kaye.
Midnight Shift: Acid House Feat. Tapirus, 30 July, kyō, 133 Cecil Street, Singapore 069535, p. 8299 8735. $20 for ladies and $25 for men, both include one complimentary drink.
Garden Beats Festival 2016 Vol. 2: 30 July at Fort Canning Park
Taking place just four months after the last boozy, blissful, beat-thumpin’ boogaloo, Sunshine Nation’s massive electronic picnic is back. Headliners for this leg include the deep house of Bakermat, the tropical house of Autograf, and the indie dance of Möwe, and of course, there’s more food and fringe activities to be found. Remember, you can bring in your own food!
Sunshine Nation Presents Garden Beats Festival 2016 Vol. 2, 30 July, Fort Canning Park, Fort Gate, River Valley Road, Singapore 179037. Tickets now available at this website: $75 (early bird until 24 June), $95 (lazy bird limited to 400 tickets), $125 (regular), or $75 (picnic special for group of 5 pax or more).
