A dance music event pumping out the hardest in house, tech-house and techno, this underground rave by DJ Zig Zach will also feature a screening of local films
Local DJ, Zig Zach, knows how to party. And more crucially – which is what makes this mad hatter (he literally wears a hat when he spins) stand out as one of most exciting mavericks in the scene – Zig Zach knows how to throw a party. The ex-Muay Thai fighter has let his repertoire of dynamic house and tech-house offer cred to his name, and he’s unleashed these underground vibes at all sorts of shindigs. His residencies at kyō, his Sessions pool parties on the rooftops of Orchard Road, and even his Outcast boat party series that turns an old Chinese junk into a booze cruise – when it comes to keeping ravers on their toes, Zig Zach keeps ’em dizzy.
So when we heard that this party hustler had yet another ace up his sleeve, we were curious. Teaming up with Jagermeister, Zig Zach has just introduced a new concept dubbed Escape 56, and it’s nothing like we’ve ever seen before. From the clubs to the cultural hubs of Kampong Glam, Escape 56 will take over the event space of Aliwal Arts Centre for one night only on 2 September. The recent reveal of this venue (it was kept secret for weeks; Zach can be a tease) is ace for two reasons: it’s an electrifying change of scenery for the venue that’s normally booked for live gigs, and its gritty, industrial interior is absolutely perfect for the sweaty, salacious warehouse rave that we expect this to be. So don’t say we didn’t warn you: dress light for this one.
Another great aspect of this debut party is the fact that its DJ line-up is entirely local, and it’s looking to be a pretty star-studded ensemble. Churning out a collective dance-a-thon of house, tech-house, and techno, you have veterans Brendon P (CÉ LA VI) and KFC (The Lo & Behold Group), much-hyped champs Haan (CATO) and Maurice Simon (who plays both the Ultra Music Festival and ZoukOut this year), a rare comeback from techno doyenne Debbie Chia who currently resides in Berlin, and not to mention the man of the hour, Zig Zach himself.

And aside from bangers and bumpers that will last way past your bedtime, there will also be warm-up entertainment from 7pm, in the form of inspiring local films courtesy of the Screening Room. Films, documentaries and music videos from the likes of Victoria Stephanie Tay, Clare Chong and more will be on reel before the rave. So come early (we hear capacity’s limited to 300 peeps!) to pre-watch and pre-drink, and get rollin’ into the right state of mind for this badass party. It sounds exactly like the escape we need.
