One of the best record labels in Singapore is throwing a big gig at this popular jazz bar
What do you get when you combine the hippest jazz venue in town with one of the most eccentric music collectives in the scene? Simply put, a gig like no other.
Home to left-field local producers like Kiat, Cherry Chan, .gif and Intriguant, Syndicate is a label and audio-visual collective that’s been keeping the underground scene afloat by fostering artistes and organising events. And for its latest rodeo, it’s invading the classy confines of Montreux Jazz Café with a Syndicate Subsessions showcase from Tennyson, a trend-bending brother-sister duo from Canada.
As tight as their sibling ties, Tennyson’s sets are quite a sight to behold – slippery synth solos locking in with equally serpentine drum arrangements. Genre-wise, these two run the gamut; don’t be surprised to hear them switch up from languorous jazz lulls to sprightly neo-soul breakdowns in the blink of an eye. And while their delivery is primarily instrumental, the emotion and wizardry that they convey is pure poetry. You, too, will be lost for words upon catching them.
The Pretty siblings (no seriously, that’s their surname) will be supported by Syndicate bossman, Kiat, who’s known for dishing out hip-hop and drum & bass. Rest assured, this isn’t gonna be your average night out.
Syndicate Subsessions Presents Tennyson Live, 15 March, 8pm-10pm, Montreux Jazz Café, Pan Pacific Orchard, 10 Claymore Road, Singapore 229540. Tickets available at $15 (limited early bird), $25 (standard online), and $35 (at the door) from this website.
