From rock and pop to psychedelic and electronica, the musical line-up at Singapore’s biggest alternative music festival offers something for everyone
If you’ve been tuning into our Singapore Sound series, you’ll know that there are plenty of local musicians in Singapore. Raising the torch for Singapore’s alternative music scene for the last 15 years is Baybeats, one of Singapore’s most respected music festivals. Every year, a fresh crop of musicians gets a chance to step up and showcase their music alongside peers from around the region, and also from home. In other words, Baybeats is where you’ll see dreams come true.
Set the dates for 14 to 16 July for some great music at the Esplanade. This year, expect to see (and hear) some feel-good psychedelic rock by Bakers In Space, dream-pop from Subsonic Eye who have been regulars on the gigging circuit this year, and post-hardcore via Decipher for something harder – just to name a few. Also on the line-up are emo pop-rock outfit Forests, alternative band sub:shaman fresh from their Japan tour, and Indonesia rock group BARASUARA.
Baybeats will have four stages this year, with each catering to a specific sound – don’t be surprised to spot intimate, electronic sets at the Chillout Stage, or belligerent mosh-fests at the Powerhouse. There’ll even be a new performance venue at the Esplanade Annexe Studio, which we told you about earlier this year.
