Take refuge (literally!) from the daily grind with old-school hip-hop, R&B and cheap drinks at this new hip-hop club in Singapore
Granted that the nightlife scene today is dominated by fist-pumping commercial EDM (Hardwell, anyone?), a club dedicated to only hip-hop and R&B music is a rarity. And the dancing and drinking spot in question is Refuge – a super sleek two level club-lounge which recently opened in Boat Quay, the district known for wicked parties, cool bars and cheap tipples.
The latest venture of Limited Edition Concepts (the masterminds of Kyo and the now-closed The Vault), Refuge screams urban culture – thanks to its kitschy decor of graffiti covered Victorian portraits. The lounge on the third level is where to kick back with a couple of cocktails to the downtempo grooves of old school funk, soulful R&B and old classics. The clincher? $5 happy hour drinks from 5pm to 9pm on weekdays (except Monday) and 7pm to 9pm on Saturdays. Go on and swig as many housepours and half pint beers as you want before throwing shapes at the dancefloor.
Head down to the second floor if you’re in the mood to bust a move to the bass-heavy flavas of old school and contemporary hip-hop and R&B sounds. Ladies, enjoy three complimentary drinks on Wednesdays with the club’s ladies’ night. Pop in on Fridays for Reminisce – homeboys Titus and Big Mike take you back with old school hip-hop and funk all night. Otherwise turnt up for Represent Saturdays for contemporary tunes are artfully mixed with classics.
Cover charge is first drink charge at $12 nett from 10pm onwards on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
