Savour some fine modern European plates at newly revamped Restaurant Ember, or head to Wisma Atria for Ben’s Cookies (yes, it’s finally here!). Want to check out a new café before anyone else? Tiong Bahru has just welcomed Whisk Café for more sweet treats to be had this weekend.
#1 – Restaurant Ember: Reborn
After 12 long years, Restaurant Ember has undergone a major revamp (about time!), and now offers new dishes, care of chef Sufian Bin Zain (who’s perfected his culinary skills at fine establishments like Iggy’s and Waku Ghin). Modern European plates like bouillabaisse, carpaccio of Tasmanian petuna ocean trout, and slow-cooked Angus short rib pepper the menu, but expect the restaurant’s old signatures as well, like crispy tofu with foie gras, and coconut panna cotta.
Restaurant Ember, 50 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089154, p. 6347 1928.
Ben’s Cookies
#2 – Ben’s Cookies has arrived
England’s top cookie maker, known for ‘baking with chunks, not chips’, is now here – no need to fly all the way to the UK! Bite into great-sounding flavours like dark chocolate chunk, milk chocolate orange, and cranberry and white chocolate at $2.95 apiece. Be prepared to wait in line though; good things never come easy.

#4 – New to Tiong Bahru: Whisk Café
Adding on to Tiong Bahru’s little “café nation” is Whisk. This bakery café run by chef-owner Tricia Lim – who interned at Cronut creator Dominique Ansel’s bakery after graduating from the New York International Culinary Centre – is all about good coffee and the dainty stuff, from macarons and lemon tarts to almond croissants and carrot cakes. They’re still in their soft launch phase, so don’t expect the full range of offerings just yet, though savouries like quiche and salads will be added to the menu soon.
