Studio Snoop: Fictive Fingers
Hani and Aisah Dalduri love getting their hands dirty – in fact, it’s all in a day’s work. The two crafty sisters are the creative minds behind Fictive Fingers: a printmaking studio which specialise in hand painted textiles and accessories. One step into their bright and airy creative space at Crawford Lane is all it takes to assure you that these ladies really know their stuff – and are ready to take the local scene by storm, one meticulously screen printed swath of fabric at a time. Listen in as we chat with Hani and Aisah on their growing brand and what’s it like being in business as sisters.
Hi girls, tell us about Fictive Fingers!
We are a hand-printed textile design house committed to small-scale production. We are known for our timeless designs that combine playful patterns with functional and durable constructions. Fictive Fingers has grown into a global brand with our creations, especially the iconic “Raga” print travelling to the far reaches of the world. Sometimes as a pocket sling bag, a good companion for running errands and other times, as the multi-purpose Furoshiki.
Not so long ago you were in a home studio and ta-dah! Now you have your own joint. Very exciting…
It is indeed really exciting! We have worked tirelessly together with the team behind resident bakery And All Things Delicious to turn our vision of a collaborative space comprising of a design and workshop studio as well as a bakery a reality.
What does this actually mean for your brand?
Having a brick and mortar allows us to meet our customers and run our classes more regularly at the studio that was designed with the features we need. It’s really great to be able to communicate with the community in person instead of behind a computer screen.
We hear that your printing classes are getting quite popular!
We are very fortunate to have people who really want to learn from us so our classes have always been well received since we started running them early last year. Now with a studio, we even have passers-by living in the neighbourhood or working at the nearby offices paying us a visit and signing up for the class right away. Most of our class participants discovered our class through social media so naturally, they are ones who love sharing their experience through Facebook and Instagram so that’s how the word gets around usually.
Is there anything more important in life than being creative every day?
We would say having supportive people around us, our loved ones and friends. Positive energy keeps us going.
Does it help to be family? Who’s the smart one?!
People always tell us how lucky we are to be sisters and have the same interests. We have our individual strengths and weaknesses and we balance off each other.
What would your dad say to that?
Hah! You gotta ask him.
Which designers are you inspired by?
We don’t have specific designers we are inspired by since what we do is always inspired by our life experiences and surroundings.
Thanks Hani and Aisah!
