All weekend
Ever wondered who or what your favourite play or film has to go through before it’s made accessible to you? Wild Rice takes on the challenge of exploring and magnifying the censorship process through Alfian Sa’at’s new play, The Death of Singapore Theatre.
Starring Farah Ong, this one-woman play depicts how an implicit dialogue between a playwright and an IMDA (Infocomm Media Development Authority) officer can be turned into a brilliant, thought-provoking performance. It’s enthralling watching her shed light on the hard truths and challenges that playmakers face in Singapore. Bonus: If you’re a local theatre buff, the play runs through the history of how theatre has been regulated in Singapore since 1895!
