Raise those green thumbs and learn how to grow an herb garden
Terrariums are cute and all, but rather than spending time making something ornamental, why take things a step further and learn to make something that actually grows? If you’re stuck for an original date idea, an herb gardening class by TAN-EUH is as unique as it gets. As an added bonus? On your next date, you can whip up a home-cooked meal using those freshly grown herbs from your own garden. Now that’s impressive.
Follow @taneuh on Instagram or email firstname.lastname@example.org to ask about their urban gardening workshop schedule.
Goof off and have a ball at the arcade
A little friendly competition with your lover can be loads of fun. Kick it back old school and let your inner child run free in the arcade (our go-to in Jakarta is Grand Indonesia’s Fun World). Collect tickets by shooting hoops and playing other frivolous games so you can win that purple plush teddy nobody needs. Finish off by challenging your beau to a thrilling car race, an exhilarating game of air hockey, and a session of Dance Dance Revolution just for laughs. Loser buys dinner.
Fun World, Grand Indonesia, 5th Floor, West Mall, Jl. MH Thamrin No. 1, Central Jakarta.
Enjoy a soulful evening at Motion Blue
Want a low-key special night out? Settle into a dinner and a show at Fairmont’s Motion Blue where entertainment comes in the form of swinging jazz from top local acts and visiting artists while you wine and dine. Continue the night with bespoke cocktails at the K-22 rooftop bar if things are going well. It’s a bit of a splurge, but trust us, you’ll score major brownie points.
Motion Blue, Fairmont Jakarta, Jl. Asia Afrika No. 8, RT. 1 / RW. 3, Kebayoran Baru, Gelora, Jakarta Pusat, Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta 10270.
Make sweet memories at Pipiltin Cocoa
Most people adore chocolate, and if they don’t, at least they can appreciate learning how it’s made. Chef Dedy, an award-winning chocolatier, hosts classes at Pipiltin Cocoa. You will spend approximately three hours rubbing elbows, and learning how to bake an eggless chocolate mousse, an individual cheesecake, and an apple spices cremaux. After your lesson, you can sit and enjoy the freshly baked finished products over a cup of coffee (Pipiltin was founded by the same people behind Anomali cafe) in their charming chocolaterie.
Pipiltin Cocoa, Jl. Barito 2 no. 5 Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. p: 62-21/7280-0011. Hours: Mon-Thurs 1pm-10pm, Fri-Sun 1pm-11pm.
Get competitive at Pong Me!
This is the cute, nerdy version of playing pool. Not only is Pong Me! the perfect place to battle over who gets the check, it is also a great place to have a double date! Doubles ping-pong, couple verses couple, ladies verses gentlemen, the options are endless, and if you’re totally over the little tennis, why not make it interesting? Pong Me! can also set you up with some beer pong!
Pong Me!, Jl. Gunawarman 37, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. p: 62-21/726-0989. Hours: Mon-Thurs 11am-11pm, Fri-Sat 11am-1am, Sun 11am-10pm.
Have a wheel good time at F. Widyanto Clay Statements
Maybe it’s the 1990s rom-com lovers in us, but who doesn’t go weak in the knees when Patrick Swayze wraps his arms around Demi Moore, both up to their elbows in clay sitting at the wheel. Now you can recreate that moment or a nifty mug or bowl (they are probably more practical) for yourself in Depok. F. Widyanto Clay Statements offers ceramics lessons that include a drink, snack, and lunch. If you’re feeling ultra romantic, pack a picnic, but don’t forget your mosquito spray as the lessons are held semi-outdoors.
F. Widyanto Clay Statements, Jl Curug Agung no. 1, Tanah Baru, Beji, Depok, West Jakarta. p: 62-21/775-7685. Hours: Mon-Sun 9am-3pm.

Kitted out with slouchy couches and a large screen, they also have a menu so you and your hot date can cuddle up, get something to munch on, and press pause when you want to chat about something utterly intriguing or the colour of their eyes, your choice.
