From delicious food and wine to the many Instagrammable spots of every corner, here’s why Pardon My French deserves the great buzz.
What would you think when you hear the words “Pardon My French”? The expression is usually used as an apology for when someone swears in front of you. So when we heard about the new restaurant near Sarinah called Pardon My French, we wondered what it was all about. Though we immediately thought that the dining spot would serve French cuisine, much to our surprise, it doesn’t really. The restaurant was named Pardon My French, because as the owner told us, this also means, “Sorry, this is not really a French restaurant! We’re actually a Japanese restaurant, but with a French touch.” Hey, as long as the food tastes good, we’re not complaining!

Inspired by the food served at French cafes in Japan, the dishes you’ll have at Pardon My French are not your typical Japanese food, because you won’t find sushi rolls here. Start with their Poke and Chips (our personal favourite), served on a small plate with your choice of spicy salmon or tuna with tempura nori. Coming in for brunch or simply looking for something sweet? Their Cornflake-Crusted French Toast is one of their standout dishes, using homemade brioche, chocolate ganache, Jim Beam butterscotch and fresh fruits on the sides.

If you’d like to have some rice, we recommend their Truffle Wagyu Don. Served with wagyu beef, cooked medium rare, and 63-degree sous vide eggs, it is the perfect choice for lunch, or anytime of the day, really. If you feel like having pasta instead, try their favourite Squid Ink Pasta, a black spaghetti dish that comes with capers, chilli, sardines, and parmesan cooked perche no-style – a choice any pasta lover will not regret.

We take our desserts seriously, and thankfully Pardon My French does too. If you always have room for dessert like we do, you don’t want to miss their Ube Bomb, a taro-flavoured panna cotta sprinkled with nuts and popping candies that pop like a ticking time bomb inside your mouth with every bite.

Pardon My French also prides itself as a wine bar. Just take a look at their menu and you’ll see that they have an extensive wine list that you can choose from. If you’d like to have something non-alcoholic instead, try their Latte Kampungan, the restaurant’s rendition of the trending Kopi Susu, or if you fancy something sweeter and more chocolatey, get their Dome Latte sprinkled with Milo powder.

When it comes to visiting Pardon My French, one does not simply disregard its ambiance. Right by the front door, there’s an eye-catching “I find you a-peel-ing” neon sign, as well as satire posters with writings like “middle finger everywhere”, “inappropriate” and many more. Indeed, the restaurant takes inspiration from the true meaning of the saying “Pardon My French”, but the decorations are presented in such a cute manner that you may not realise they contain some strong language if you’re not paying enough attention.

Finally, we have to give special note to the restaurant’s mascot, a big brown drunk bear that sits alone at the bar, with his head bowed down and a glass of whiskey on the table. Good food, great drinks and cool interiors are setting Pardon My French up to be one of the most Instagrammed new cafes in Jakarta!
