These days we have a whopping number of cafes popping up just about every month – but as recently as 2012, specialty coffee shops were a rare breed. One Fifteenth Coffee was the java joint to lead the way for coffee aficionados in Jakarta. Situated in a standalone building in the Gandaria neighbourhood, the cafe’s interiors are bare and minimalist, best to let their brews stand out.
And their coffee is indeed as good as it gets in Jakarta. For those who wonder where its name comes from, 1:15 is apparently the correct coffee-to-water ratio to achieving the perfect cup of coffee. They must know what they are doing – within its first year of opening, their Head Barista Doddy Samsura won first place at the Indonesian Barista Championship and became the first Indonesian representative to compete in the World Barista Championships, so it’s no surprise that their coffee is epic. Fast forward to today and you can see that One Fifteenth has been busy expanding their coffee empire. Travellers can stop by for a quick coffee to-go at their stall in the new Soekarno-Hatta Terminal 3, and if you’re in Bali, One Fifteenth brews every day at the Potato Head boardwalk in Seminyak.
But coffee isn’t the only thing brewing at this casual cafe. If you’re feeling peckish there’s plenty to nibble on. One Fifteenth’s All Day Brunch menu has very American dishes like Chicken and Waffles, and Sloppy Joes while also serving yummy local snacks like Kaya Toast and Pempek. You can spend an entire day here, easy.
