When M83 dropped the breakout track “Midnight City” fresh off “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming”, the band seemingly became overnight sensations even though the critically-acclaimed album was actually the sixth for the French electronic music band. There wasn’t a soundtrack, music festival, or DJ set that didn’t play that beautiful tune. Hard work definitely paid off, as Pitchfork even named the album as one of The 100 Best Albums of the Decade So Far. Fast-forward to May 2016, where we get to experience their signature dreamy, melancholic synth-pop sounds live on our sunny shores of Jakarta.
Whether you’ve loved them since “Teen Angst” or heard “Midnight City” for the first time in one of its many remixed forms at a dance festival one summer, you won’t want to miss this epic show, because M83 is a treat to view live. In somewhat of a rare occurrence, Jakarta is currently their only South East Asian stop before they move on to Korea, Japan and the festival circuit in the United States.
It’s been a minute since the French electronic music band released their Grammy-nominated album in 2011, so it’s no wonder that fans of the band were more than thrilled when just last December the musical act announced that their newest album was finished, and would be released sometime this year. Here’s to hoping we’ll be treated to snippets of M83’s “epic” new album, which still does not have a set release date.
