Best Cupcakes in Jakarta
We’re kicking off 2014 on a sweet note! It’s no secret we have a sweet tooth – and cupcakes are our recent objects of affection. They’re easy on the eyes (and sometimes too pretty to eat) and they please us in all-too-many many (flavourful) ways. Before you embark on detoxes and diets, drop the calorie-count and hunt down the best cupcakes in J-Town!
Dubbed “the queen of cupcakes”, Cupcakes Heaven has awed the Big Durian with their intricately decorated cupcakes since 2006. From weddings (6-tiers filled with dainty cupcakes!), birthdays (a fight nearly broke out amongst the rugrats over the minion cupcakes), corporate parties to baby showers, Cupcakes Heaven has tackled them all! One of the first online cupcake stores in the city has taken the rest of Indonesia by storm – now they even deliver to Bandung.
You long to bring sweet treats to the Christmas family gathering, but Dad’s got his eye on Mum’s cholesterol levels. The kids are nagging you for a strawberry cupcake with frostings, but they’re on a strict low-sugar diet. This is where Beyond Treats makes its mark. Their cupcakes are gluten-free, dairy free, egg-free and sugar-free (replaced by maple syrup). Allergic to chocolate? Opt for their carob cupcake.
We’re so glad that Twelve Cupcakes has invaded our shores – their fluffy cake, perfect frostings and, cute pink take-away boxes have convinced us that they’re a keeper. Find your favorite between their 12 everyday flavors (ours is chocolate chocolate, the name just spells double trouble) or be adventurous with their monthly specials (it’s Baileys Chocolate this month!).
If anybody can pack love in a box, the search stops at Jollyroo. With every bite, no matter which flavor (they have 22), Jollyroo always manages to make us smile and reach out for more. Our favorites are the light fruity ones, like the Mango Marvelous and the Blueberry Dive. The littlies love their mini cupcakes, they actually pack a punch. Feeling adventurous? Try the Roo’beer, Coconut Lime, or even Durian! Jollyroo, firstname.lastname@example.org, p. +62 81807722527.
Sweets Cupcakes are the crème-de-la-crème of the homemade cupcake world. Run by two ladies passionate about baking, Sweets got up hooked us with the 9 different flavours they have on offer. The best part? They’ve teamed up with Cartoes Cute to create the perfect show-stealer for our parties: cupcakes decorated with hand-made paper cut cupcake wrappers and toppers! They look good, they taste awesome, and the kids love ‘em – what more can we ask for?
The Goods Café
We love hanging out at the Goods Café after a good time spent in the Goods Dept. Shopping can be very exhausting (we’re sure the husbands will agree) – what better than a cupcake (or two) to get us through the rest of the day? Their Tye Dye is certainly a trip down the memory lane (think candy floss and crackling candies), and a twist to the ol’ red velvet! Need an extra oomph? Have a milkshake – it’s one of the best in town!
The Goods Café, Pacific Place, 1st fl. #1-02, Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav. 52-53 SCBD, p. +6221 57973143 (Multiple locations, see website for details.)
What they say is true – all good things come in small packages! This tiny bake shoppe, owned by two sisters, offers 19 flavours of cupcakes as well as whole cakes, cookies, and meringues. We highly recommend their Choco Salted Caramel Walnut and, of course, their Red Velvet. They can get very busy at times, so order your cupcakes 3-7 days ahead for delivery and pick-ups.
Co-founded by the lady who brought us Steak Hotel by Holycow, Cupcakes Company is so innovative (over 30 flavours, cupcakes on a stick, and cupcakes in a jar), we’ll never get bored of it. We’re not ashamed to admit we are regular customers of their Chocolate Monster and Blue Velvet (blue is the new red!). And we’re dying to try out the spanking new Toblerone Volcano.
