Who’s up for some wine? Whether you’d like to have it during the day or in the evening, Bae by Socieaty will amaze you with their selections of affordable wine to pair with your meal all day long.
Bae by Socieaty first caught our attention with its ultra millennial lexicon. Taking cue from the popular acronym “Before Anyone Else”, the casual dining spot situated in Senayan City’s Central Lagoon, is managed under Les Amis Group, whose establishments include Socieaty, Shabu Shabu Gen, and Momozen. Despite its amusing name, this restaurant is one that you shouldn’t take lightly, as it serves a delicious and unique fusion of Asian-European comfort food, with some of the most affordable wine in Jakarta.
The ambiance of Bae by Society’s space is intentionally moody – dimmed lights make for an almost romantic date night spot in an industrial kind of way. The restaurant repurposed wooden wine boxes as part of their interior decoration to showcase the different selections of wine offered. The smoking and non-smoking areas are even separated by a wall filled with Bae’s abundant selection of wines, making it clear that wine is the hero at Bae. How can it be not, when free-flow wine is available daily from the opening to closing time at only IDR 300,000 per person? Now that’s a great deal. Every hour is wine o’clock here at Bae!
Inside the restaurant, portraits of different people with tattoos all over their body are hung on the wall. The inspiration for this, was the restaurant’s Head Chef, who himself has an affinity for tattoos. It’s clear that the chef himself has a big influence on the interior of Bae, as there is a big mural of him on the wall inside the non-smoking area.
After tasting his creations, we agree that the chef is indeed the star of the show. Among the starters, the Cassava Nachos is the best. It’s a special kind of nachos, using cassava chips instead of regular tortilla chips, with US beef, jalapeno, salsa, black beans, mozzarella, guacamole, and sour cream. Another favourite is their grilled bite-sized Doperlamb Ribs, which uses sweet honey mustard to better suit our Indonesian taste.
If you love sambal matah, you’ll definitely love their Bebek Matah. Using duck breast, kiuri, tomato, and sambal matah, this dish is technically a fried rice that you need to mix up like bibimbap. Pasta lovers can opt for their recommended Cheeky Beef fettuccine, which is pink due to the use of beets. The beef cheek tastes like sweet rendang, and while earthy wild mushrooms are added as toppings.
You can’t call yourself a fan of spicy food if you haven’t tried their Cabe-Cabean pizza. You can tell that it’s going to be a tearjerker from the name alone! The pizza has nothing but all kinds of spicy toppings, using jalapeno, capsicum, chili, mozzarella, and chili flakes on the top. You’ve been warned!
For desserts, make sure you don’t miss their incredible Chocolate Salted Egg Lava Cake. It’s not your regular lava cake, because it spills out oozing salted egg instead of chocolate sauce when you cut into it! A hint of salt can be tasted amid the sweetness of the chocolate cake, and it’s even better because it comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. For a unique (and affordable!) fusion dining experience that ticks all the boxes, you’ll want to check out Bae by Society.
