Uma Cucina at Uma by Como
Honeycombers Bali has always been a fan of the Uma by Como in Ubud. Many a lovely afternoon has been spent sipping cocktails poolside feeling ever so stylish. So, when we heard they had opened Uma Cucina, a new Italian restaurant, we hightailed it up the hill prestissimo.
We were lucky to sneak in a pre-dinner tour of the hotel’s seventeen new rooms and would happily have moved into the new pool villa right then and there. Light and spacious with understated stylish interior décor, these new rooms really hit the mark.
But enough about the rooms, we were there to eat! And eat we did. Not before we tried one of the signature cocktails, the ‘Uma Cucina Negroni’, a divine concoction of Tanqueray, Campari, Martini Rosso and homemade strawberry jam, topped with Prosecco. The bar staff has been trained by the Met team in London so you know you’re in good hands and the cocktail list is extremely sophisticated, as is the wine list.
We chose to eat al fresco on the terrace but there’s a great big communal table inside making it a fabulous spot to get together with a group of friends. The menu features lots of Italian classics – homemade pastas, thin-crust wood fire pizzas and breads, and heavenly gelatos. Not known to shy away from carbs after five, we went straight for the pasta with braised beef short rib ragu topped with parmigano reggiano. Sublime. Followed by the roast pork belly and polenta chips (on the side), we didn’t think we could make room for dessert but ordered the Valrhona Chocolate Nemesis anyway – heavenly.
The restaurant is all about what Bali does best: the best of both worlds, Italian style and sophistication blended with the stunning Balinese backdrop and impeccable service.
Buon Appetito!
