Take the pillowy goodness of a bao bun and mix it with the boldness of a burger. Honeys, get ready to bao down to Street Boi
If you’ve ever scoured the island looking for the perfect steamed bao, but ended up feeling as deflated as the bun you stumbled upon, you’re not alone. But don’t throw your baos outta the pram just yet. Luckily for you fellow bao buffs, there’s a new boi on the Seminyak block that’s doing badass baos with a very bold twist. Let us introduce you to Street Boi – the new bao bun specialist in Seminyak.
Breaking all the rules of a traditional bao, Street Boi is bringing a burger-like approach to the humble bao. Imagine the perfect pillowyness of a traditional bao, with its soft, supple and slightly moist feel. Then stuff it full of killer fillers that you’ve only ever seen on the inside of a juicy quarter pounder.
The Street Boi stars? The Porky Pork does exactly what it says on the tin – a serious slab of twice-cooked pork belly, loaded with crunchy cabbage, apple, red onions and radish, then doused in a slap of Asian salsa verde and a Chinese glaze. It’s sticky, it’s soulful and it’s all about fusing deep Asian flavours with slow cooked meats.
Another kickass fusion is Chuck’s Bao, and yes it’s as mean as Chuck Norris himself. A chunky 120g hunk of beef is stacked high with smoked cheddar, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles and mustard, charged by a roasted garlic mayo and Street Boi’s own signature sauce. It’s a bao bun with attitude, using some seriously top notch ingredients.
Not only nailing the bao game, Street Boi also serves up some epic sides and badass bites. There’s the finger lickin’ Popcorn Chicken in a Chinese glaze, sprinkled with spring onions, fried shallots, sesame seeds and a kimchi mayo, as well as the Mad Fries stacked with pulled beef, smoked cheddar, a hit of green chilli, and that scrummy Street Boi sauce – best washed down with one of the homemade, house-fizzed sodas.
And did we mention the Chuck Norris meal deal? For just 100k, you can smash any bao, beer and fries, or any cocktail with Popcorn Chicken. It’s a mean deal, with serious street appeal.
See you on the Street Boi block, Honeys!
