Food, glorious food! Another month goes by with some fabulous new restaurants and cafes in Bali opening up, from five-star dining in Seminyak, to a surfers breakfast in Canggu. These are Bali’s hottest new haunts for foodies!
Bali foodies rejoice! Yup, more restaurants and cafes have opened their doors over the past few months. From dining with chef’s in the kitchen at Alila Seminyak to big surfer breakfasts in Kuta, here is our round up of recently opened [or soon to be open] hot spots on the island.
A Culinary Adventure: Alila Seminyak
The beautiful Alila Seminyak recently launched Chef’s Tables, which takes places every day at The Restaurant. Combining the kitchen and chef [Vivian Vitalis] with the bar and mixologist [Carlos Torrescano], Chef’s Tables is a culinary adventure you need to try! Enjoy a five-course meal where each dish is cleverly combined with creative cocktails… Indulge in Crispy Pork Belly washed down with a Lemon Sorbet Martini for instance. Watch your food being prepared and cooked, ask the staff anything you want, and mostly just enjoy this intimate [and once in a lifetime] experience of being behind the scenes in a kitchen/bar. Plus the whole experience starts with a glass of bubbles, you can’t go wrong with that!
Chef’s Tables is available daily at The Restaurant for 1-4 persons per table. 24-hour advance reservation is required. Cost is IDR 1,450,000++ per person with cocktail pairings.
Reserve your table by emailing [email protected] or book via the website Alila Seminyak, Alila Seminyak, Jalan Taman Ganesha No. 9, Petitenget, Seminyak, p. +62 (0)361 3021 888.
Cultural Classic: Kayumanis Resto Jimbaran
Ever heard of a joglo? Us either, before we came to Bali that is! These beautifully built wooden houses can be seen all over the island [amongst the sea of villas] and offer the chance for Bali to keep that old school Balinese charm. Kayumanis Resto Jimbaran space is a customized Javanese joglo, giving the restaurant a cultural beauty that is so timeless. Nestled within a lush tropical garden, this is the place to go for a romantic night with your lover. Check out their weekly schedule too – they offer Satay Night, Indonesian food buffet [created by talented Chef Oka] and cultural entertainment!

A Night of Passion: La Sicilia
Last month La Sicilia, in bustling Seminyak, opened its second floor and it screams sophistication. Their downstairs space has been successfully converted into a restaurant and bar that offers an escape into a world of intimacy and elegance. Enjoy the smooth sounds of jazz whilst taking in the décor of wordly artisanal items, all whilst sipping cocktails and grazing on sublime Mediterranean food.
La Sicilia, Jalan Laksamana no. 151, Oberoi, Seminyak, p.+62 (0)813 3876 9689.
Naked Food: Nude
And no, we don’t mean a nudist café. Located in Berawa, Nude is a new café making a name for itself due to its surprisingly [yes, we were shocked to discover we wanted everything on the menu] raw food menu. If raw cashew pancakes with salted caramel sauce, strawberry salsa and vanilla cream don’t float your boat [what’s wrong with you], don’t worry as they also have a cooked menu allowing you to curb those meat and carb cravings!

Sanur Spice: Spice by Chris Salans
The second instalment of Spice has come to Bali shores, and again is fronted by world famous master chef [and one of Bali’s culinary ambassadors], Chris Salans. Chris is the man behind the iconic Mozaic Restaurant in Ubud, he has won many accolades for his innovative cooking, and has even successfully released his own cook book [named Best in the World in 2011]. Located in Sanur, Spice is a gastro-bar offering everyone the chance to dine under Chris’s talent and creativity, including his innovative combining of French and Indonesian flavours and ingredients. Spice by Chris Salans in Sanur officially opens on 15th September.
