Psychics and soul food at Kreol Kitchen
Annick Le Brasse, the Australian-born Mauritian owner of Kreol Kitchen in Seminyak, is a warm, spirited lady who welcomes all to her cafe with an infectious smile and laid back vibe. But don’t let her easy demeanour fool you: apart from serving up some of the best Creole, Indian, Mauritian, and Australian nosh on the island, Annick also does Angel Cards and tarot readings. Groovy! We dropped in to Kreol for a glimpse into our glittering future and a chance to enjoy its signature curry platter.
Hi Annick! What’s cooking in Kreol Kitchen right now?
Fresh and toasted wraps, our own salad creations including beef kofte and tzatziki, vegetarian options such as roasted capsicum, beetroot, eggplant, and of course, our Mauritian Kreol platters. We use as much locally sourced produce as possible and avoid pre-packaged items, which is why we pride ourselves on not stocking brand name sodas. As an alternative, I make my own syrups. Our lemon slices, caramel pops and fruit pavlovas are childhood favourites, which are made completely from scratch.
What inspires you?
It comes from the heart and it’s all about the intention to create a cozy, nurturing environment. It’s really an extension of my kitchen at home. I always listen to customer feedback and often try new specials too.
So what’s with the Angel Cards and tarot readings?
Angel Cards give an uplifting and positive guidance on life. I put them in the cafe to enhance the customer experience and it fitted naturally with my wish to ‘feed’ people on a mental, physical, and spiritual level. And it worked! I recently had a table of five Singaporean ladies who’d never seen an Angel Card and they spent an hour looking through them. It created an amazing table discussion.
I’d been using tarot cards on myself for over a decade but felt fearful to read for others. At the beginning of this year, I was drawn to creating my own Angel cards and everything just seemed to click.. I started to do readings in the cafe and I’ve had some amazing results. I am allowing people to step outside a particular situation and see it from a different angle as an observer and sometimes, I confirm the way they’re feeling at that particular moment. One lady felt so inspired that she decided to enter a meditation retreat.
Thanks Annick!
So, here’s the lowdown on Honeycombers’ brush with the psychic world: while we indulged in a spot of naughty and nice cuisine (namely a healthy octopus and eggplant curry platter, followed by a delicious homemade apple pie with ice cream), Annick brought out the tarot cards. She then asked us to shuffle and ‘clear’ the tarot card deck by tapping on it three times. To be honest, we don’t usually volunteer any insights into our lives but sheer fascination and Annick’s empathetic approach drew us in. She was really spot on too, identifying some current life issues, and gently explained how the cards showed suggested solutions.
Far more than just a few tea leaves, you can drop in for lunch and leave with a new life plan: win-win for all!
