4 New Restaurants in Bali
This month we’ve donned our best sequined frocks and heels to visit glam new restaurants on the island, but just as quickly as you can say ‘what’s for dinner’, we’re getting down and dirty in the sand with our havaianas! It’s exactly what we love about Bali: there’s always something new and it’s never the same. So here are our tips on what’s new in the resto scene this month – just be ready for a quick costume change!
Merah Putih
We’ve been thinking it’s high time that there was some sophisticated and refined Indonesian cuisine and this brand spanking new restaurant could just fit the bill. Merah Putih means Red White and it takes its name from the colours of the Indonesian flag. The menu is divided into a traditional and a modern section with fabulous new takes on old classics. This is some of the most exciting Indonesian food we’ve eaten in a long time! And what a place to dine – the design is breathtaking – full-length glass walls, cathedral-style vaulted ceilings, and the room is dotted with sky high palm trees. Best of all, everything is eco-sustainable. Best book ahead, it’s deservedly popular!
Merah Putih, Jalan Petitenget 100x, Kerobokan, Bali, Indonesia, p. + 62 361 8465950. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
Teatro Gastroteque
Speaking of sophisticated…it doesn’t get much more ooh la la than this restaurant. Teatro Gastroteque offers serious fine dining right here in Bali. There’s an a la carte menu but you really have to try the degustation menu to get the full monty. The wine list is also stunning. Chef Mandif Warokka is somewhat of a celebrity having received accolades from all over the world and was voted the Best Chef in Bali in 2011.
Teatro Gastroteque, Jalan Kayu Aya, block C no. 1-2, Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia, p. +623618700078. Open daily from 7pm.
Bungalow Living Bali
The more we get to know Bungalow the more we love it! Housed in a fabulous old joglo, it serves fresh and delicious food, divine juices, milkshakes, smoothies, and mouthwatering treats. There are fantastic vegetarian options – we highly recommend the chickpea burger and the homemade falafels are perfect! After looking after your tummy you can also go shopping – they have a gorgeous selection of homewares, furniture, and gifts.
Bungalow Living Bali, Jalan Pantai Berewa, Canggu, Bali, Indonesia, p. + 62 361 844 6567. Open daily 8.30am-6pm.
Berawa Beach Tavern
You’ve just had a surf and fancy a really good burger, a BBQ, a milkshake, and maybe even an icy cold Bintang? Then the newly opened Berawa Beach Tavern is the place to park your board. They do Western and Indonesian food so just grab a beanbag, relax, and let the kids go wild in the sand. Try and make it down for sunset as they are never less than spectacular on this side of the island.
